Saina Nehwal career , biography , history

Saina Nehwal is a professional badminton player from India who was born on March 17, 1990. She was a former world number one and has garnered 24 international victories, including ten Superseries victories. Although she reached world No. 2 in 2009, it wasn't until 2015 that she was able to claim the top spot, making her the only Indian woman and second Indian overall (Prakash Padukone was the first) to accomplish this achievement. She has competed three times for India in the Olympics, taking home a bronze medal in London in 2012.

In badminton, Nehwal has set various records for India. She is the only Indian to have taken home a medal at each major individual competition held by the BWF, including the Olympics, World Championships, and Junior Championships. She is the first badminton player from India to win an Olympic medal, get to the BWF World Championships final, and take home the BWF World Junior Championships trophy. Nehwal won a 4-star tournament in 2006, making history as the first Indian woman and the youngest Asian to do it. Additionally, she is the first Indian to claim a Super Series victory. She led the Indian team in the 2014 Uber Cup and remained unbeaten, assisting India in taking home the nation's first-ever Uber Cup bronze medal.[14] Nehwal also made history by becoming the first Indian to win two singles gold medals at the Commonwealth Games (in 2010 and 2018).
