The Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, popularly known as the Mangalam Chinnaswamy Stadium, is a cricket stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
This five-decade-old stadium is located in the center of Bangalore, surrounded by the gorgeous Cubbon Park, Queen's Road, Cubbon, and uptown MG Road. It regularly holds Test cricket, ODI, T20i, and other First-class cricket matches, as well as musical and cultural events. The stadium can accommodate 40,000 spectators. The stadium serves as the home field for both the Indian Premier League side Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Karnataka state cricket team. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) holds a 100-year lease on the property, which is owned by the government of Karnataka.
The stadium was renamed in honor of Mangalam Chinnaswamy Mudaliar, a lawyer from Mandya and a founding member of the Mysore State Cricket Association, after it was formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium. He spent four decades working for the KSCA. From 1977 to 1980, he served as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It is the first cricket stadium in the world to generate the majority of the electricity required to run the stadium using solar power. The KSCA's "Go Green" project was used to purchase the panels.[4][5] To prevent matches being canceled due to a soggy outfield, a water purification facility was constructed in 2016, and by January 2017, a system of aeration and drainage was in place.
