 Kutraleeswaran Ramesh, often known as Kutraleeswaran or Kutral, is an Indian swimmer and the creator of the Nanban Sports Foundation, which strives to aid struggling Indian athletes. He was born on November 8, 1981.

A recipient of the renowned Arjuna Award for athletes from the Indian government, he made history when he was just 13 years old by becoming the first person to swim across six channels in a single year, a feat that has never been accomplished before.

He currently heads the Nanban Sports Foundation to assist Indian athletes who are struggling financially to pay for their athletic endeavors.

Private life

Tamil Nadu's Erode is where Kutral was born. He is the second child of Ramesh, a Madras High Court attorney, and wife Sivakami, a housewife. He was a month old when his family relocated to Chennai. He was hitched to Brindha Ananthan.


Swimming -He learned to swim between the ages of 4 and 5 in his native hamlet in a large well with the help of a dry bottle guard that served as a swimming ring. His parents were so impressed by his excitement and interest in swimming that they signed him up for swimming lessons for the summer. Kutral's coach was impressed by how quickly he learned all four strokes. He recommended Kutral's parents to keep teaching after the holidays, which they did, launching Kutral's swimming career at a young age.


At the age of seven, when the "Ribbon Meet" was held in Chennai, he made his first significant appearance in a swimming competition. The top six of the eight district-level finalists received ribbons as rewards, hence the name "ribbon meet." He received a ribbon and sixth place in the competition. He participated in a lot of regional and national competitions. He participated in a 5 km sea swimming competition when he was ten years old (in 1991). He finished fourth despite being the youngest participant.
