Anshu Jamsenpa, an Indian mountaineer, is the first woman in history to successfully reach Mount Everest's peak twice in one season and the fastest to do so in under five days. Additionally, it is a woman's quickest double ascent of the highest summit. She is from Bomdila, the district capital of West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh, the nation's most northeastern state.[3] In 2021, she received the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honor in India.

Career

Jamsenpa reached the top of Mount Everest for the first time on May 12 and again on May 21 of that same year.

In the 2013 North East India Everest Expedition under the direction of Surjit Singh Leishangthem, she reached the summit of Mount Everest.

In 2017, Jamsenpa made history by being the first female climber to reach the peak of Mount Everest twice in a season and in under 5 days. It is a woman's fastest double ascent of the highest crest. As this was her sixth summit, she surpassed all other Indian women in terms of number of ascents.

On April 2, 2017, she left Guwahati for her Everest climbing adventure after receiving the blessing of the 14th Dalai Lama. She spent 38 days at the Everest Base Camp (at 17,600 feet) getting acclimated before beginning her major expedition on April 4. She ascended the mountaintop at 9.15 am on May 16 with the assistance of 17 other climbers, where they unfurled the Indian National Flag.

On May 19, she set out on her second challenging journey with Furi Sherpa of Nepal. She hiked till ten o'clock in the evening, virtually without stopping to ascend. She started ascending once more the following morning, took a quick break before the summit trip, and ultimately made it to the top at 7.45 am on May 21, 2017. She already had a double ascent under her belt from 2011, but in just ten days, she ascended the mountain twice (on the second and third expeditions).[15] But this year, after completing her fourth mission, she needed 118 hours and 15 minutes to complete her fifth.
